How to Beat the Sunday Scaries

It’s Sunday afternoon. You’re sitting on your couch petting your beloved emotional support animal. Just then a pang of terror hits you as you think about your 8AM Zoom meeting with a client tomorrow. You feel your stomach tighten as your mind is flooded with the tasks and responsibilities facing you next week. Before long, you are dreading the week ahead to the point where you can no longer enjoy the rest of your weekend. These feelings, my friends, are the Sunday Scaries.

Feeling tense just thinking about it? Here are some tips to beat the Sunday Scaries and get back to enjoying your weekends:

☘️ Set up something fun for Monday morning: a special coffee run, catching up with your favorite coworker, etc.
☘️ Practice 5 minutes of mindfulness, focusing on deep, intentional breathing
☘️ Go outside and plant your feet in the grass. Imagine the earth absorbing your stress
☘️ Practice self care before bed
☘️ Give yourself time to indulge in a good book or show
☘️ Turn your phone on DND for 1 hour
☘️ Write a short gratitude list
☘️ Call a friend or tell a loved one how you're feeling
☘️ Plan enjoyable meals and activities for next week, ideally something for every day
☘️ Remind yourself of your top priorities in life and challenge yourself to redirect worries about work back to what matters most
